J.P.H.M. (Jos) Benders, Director
Manufacturing Europe of Lyondell, has been awarded ‘Port man of the year
2003’ by the Rotterdam maritime press club Kyoto.
This prize honours the person who has paid the biggest positive contribution to the Port of Rotterdam. Kyoto selected Benders as its 24th prize winner for his active role in realising the new Lyondell Bayer chemical plant in the port’s Maasvlakte area.
‘He consistently persuaded his American principals that Rotterdam offers such a plant the best feasibility’, the Kyoto jury argued. The EUR 1 billion Lyondell Bayer project accounts for the lionís share of the EUR 1.5 billion that was invested by private enterprises in the Port of Rotterdam in 2003. The new Maasvlakte-plant will produce polypropylene oxide and styrene monomers.
